The history of photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is arguably the most widely-used photo-editing software in the world. It has done wonders for designers and photographers by providing a one-program solution for almost all design needs.

Photoshop was created in 1988 when Ph.D. student Tom Knoll wrote a graphic application called “Display” on a Macintosh Plus. Initially, the software was made to display grayscale images on a monochrome display, and it is considered the unofficial predecessor of Photoshop. Soon, his brother John Knoll encouraged Tom to turn it into an image editing software. Eventually, he finished the software after six months of development, and the 1.0 version of Photoshop came to be.

Tom and John Knoll tried to market the software as best as they could, and it became the first photo-editing software that was released to the public. Soon, the software was purchased by Adobe and was officially branded as an Adobe product in 1990.

Throughout the years, Adobe Photoshop has seen many updates where features are added here and there, such as the layers feature that was added in version 3.0, editable text that came with version 5.0, Photoshop CC, and so on; but at its core, the software is still delivered in the same fashion, remaining a software that must be downloaded on a computer. Although there is now a mobile version of Photoshop, the computer software is the one that most people use.

Nowadays, Photoshop evolved to have more functions and be able to edit higher quality photos, and become a software that digital illustrators also use. With more tools, the Photoshop that we are used to has more tools and allows for more customizations.
