Mid Century Designer Principles

M

Mid-century designers are pivotal pieces for interactive design and designers in general. The principles they created then are being used in my classes now. Like the Eames making sure to have fun in their construction of chairs, through the process though they would try, fail and repeat this process. Iterating forms over and over. Gerstner and his use of grids are used from higher fidelity wireframes to web design to any other design we have, grids help ground a designer. Sutnar’s use of hierarchy can be seen translating into web design, Size, scale, type, being able to share information through illustrations instead of many words. All of these things I feel as if I am learning in my classes, every week I learn something new about the process of UX, but never knew how it came to be that these things are so important.

Lastly, Dreyfuss has affected User Research by really putting the user first. Understanding the psychology, the thought, the physical ability of humans. He truly brought human factors into the human process. All of these designers are inspirational for what they have enabled us to now do but what they have came up with may have not been able to happen without the extensive background and design reach that they had, not being limited to just a single area.
