How has the graphical user interface changed since the early Macintosh / Windows days?

In my opinion, the Graphical User Interface have significantly changed since early Macintosh/windows.Earlier the GUIs featured basic and flat icons, windows, and a simple gray scale mouse pointer. Over time and many iterations they became more intuitive and user-friendly with the addition of features like drag-and-drop functionality, context menus, and taskbars.
I also feel that the personalization of GUI has grown so much in trend. The users can customize and personalize their icons, which allows them to adapt the interface according to their preferences. Despite significant advancements, some core principles of graphical user interfaces have remained constant. These include the use of icons to represent applications and files, the concept of windows for managing content, the pointer-based navigation and many more.
I feel that everyday there are some new inventions and iterations of GUI which makes the experience more fun for the users.
