The internet and other functionality we have come to rely on was originally funded by government and department of defense budgets. In your opinion should governments, corporations or open source ventures be responsible for inventing new technology?

I believe the responsibility for inventing new technology should be a shared endeavor involving governments, corporations, and open-source communities.

Governments have the unique position and resources to kickstart innovative projects, especially in areas that might not have immediate commercial appeal. They can fund the risky, early-stage research that lays the groundwork for major technological breakthroughs.

Corporations then can take these innovations and scale them up, making them accessible and user-friendly for the general public. They bring the efficiency and drive needed to turn raw innovations into polished, practical products.

Open-source ventures add another crucial layer. They ensure that innovation isn’t locked away behind corporate walls, fostering a collaborative environment where anyone can share, improve upon, and implement ideas. This democratizes innovation, ensuring it’s not just the big players who have a say in our technological future.

So I think it’s not about placing the responsibility on one group alone. It’s about creating an ecosystem where governments, corporations, and open-source communities work together, each playing a unique role in driving innovation.
