The internet and other functionality we have come to rely on was originally funded by U.S. government and department of defense budgets. In your opinion should governments, corporations or open source ventures be responsible for inventing new technology?

In my opinion, the responsibility for inventing new technology should be a collaborative effort involving governments, corporations, and open-source ventures. The collaborative approach involving governments, corporations, and open-source ventures is essential for responsible technology innovation. Governments, in particular, play a vital role in regulating and overseeing emerging technologies like self-driving cars, especially in the face of controversies.

The development and deployment of self-driving cars in San Francisco and elsewhere have indeed sparked numerous controversies, ranging from concerns about safety and liability to ethical dilemmas. Government control and oversight become imperative to address these issues effectively. Government agencies can establish safety standards and regulations, conduct rigorous safety assessments, and enforce compliance, all with the aim of mitigating the risks associated with cutting-edge technologies.

Additionally, the ethical dimensions of self-driving cars, such as decisions they must make in life-threatening situations, underscore the need for government guidelines. These guidelines ensure that the companies developing these technologies adhere to ethical principles and prioritize the safety and well-being of society.
