Jorge Arango: Make the complex clear
Jorge Arango, a professor in the CCA Interaction Design program, is an interaction designer who “architected digital experiences and made the complex clear” He works as a design consultant, which helps the organization have the same understanding and share vision towards the projects. Jorge works in a broad spectrum of the fields, author, podcast, and blog post, along with his consultant career. He wrote a book called “Living in Information: Responsible Design for Digital Places.”, claiming the importance of influence that “designers affect users’ behavior” and “be responsible for the consequences.”
His blog posts showing his opinions throughout the various topics associated with human interaction are worth reading. The blog post, “Don’t make me think, Xbox Edition.” challenges the confusion created by the latest Xbox, Xbox series X. The confusion arose as the title for the newest Xbox is similar to the Third-Gen Xbox One X. Jorge claims that the identifier Series X creates a weird symmetry between generations. They both start and end with X; however, “One” and “Series” have no relationship. He concludes that customers should not be confused by its name, which I thinks it’s related to his self introduction: make the complex clear.
I find this blog post is part of what Jorge thinks that every designer should have: human-centered. The Xbox case conveys that the design should have a clear direction provided to the users and audience. Another blog post, “Beginner’s mind,” claims that designers should not forget about people who are not accustomed to the designers’ service. Jorge’s posts about the attitude that should be a cornerstone to designers give me advice as I am new to this career and make me utilize a customer experience, suggesting a different perspective to the service and implementing that human-centered mindset to my works.

I am in Jorge’s class too! After last week’s class, I totally get what “designers affect users’ behavior” and “be responsible for the consequences” means. He explained we as a designer should let our design guide the user, every piece in the design should be clear and carefully thought!
wow I didn’t know our professor’s name is on the list, too! This makes me realize how many invaluable resources we are enjoying as a CCA IXD student.
