Irene Au has a math and science background and she built robots when she was in college. When attending the electrical and computer engineering graduate program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Irene found her passion for solving problems within technology. Irene created her own program of study in human-computer interaction (HCI), and at that time, HCI was unheard of. Working as an interaction designer at Netscape Communications, she became the first designer with such a background in the consumer Internet space.
In 1998, Irene joined Yahoo! led the team for 8 years, Irene established Yahoo’s user experience design practice. Then Irene joined Google In 2006 for 6 years. She led the user experience team, responsible for design and research for all Google-branded products around the world.
As a current Operating Partner at Khosla Ventures, Irene works with startup CEOs from all stages.
After work, Irene loves yoga. She also teaches yoga and meditation at one of Palo Alto’s oldest and most established yoga studios called Avalon Art and Yoga Center.
