Lisa Welchman is an internationally-recognized author, educator, expert, speaker, and management consultant, who is an accomplished African American leading practitioner in the field of digital governance. In 1995, Welchman started her career journey in Web page coding for Netscape in Silicon Valley. Before she established Welchmanpierpoint in 1999, she was also the program manager for web publishing at Cisco systems. During her time in her own company, Lisa and her team created governance project and web operations management and produced the first structured methodology for assessing digital governance maturity. Over the course of the last five years, Lisa managed to accomplish five different publications including her most recent book: Managing Chaos: Digital Governance by Design.
As a respected author and a passionate advocate, Lisa devoted her time into over 16 years of writing and blogging about digital governance. In her very own definition “Digital governance is a discipline that focuses on establishing clear accountability for digital strategy, policy, and standards. A digital governance framework, when effectively designed and implemented, helps to streamline digital development and dampen debates around digital channel ‘ownership.” Lisa has traveled around the world and met various professional groups and companies who seek out Lisa to breaks down each element of digital governance and address the topics range from the evolving role of the digital worker to the influence of digital on the enterprise. As a trusted advisor, Lisa recognizes the challenges that a large company could be facing due to the mercurial digital world – over the past two decades, she has consulted and solved over 1000 companies’ digital governance obstacles, such as digital strategy, digital policy, and digital standards. Each of these categories has its significant subcategories which Lisa has pioneered.
As a thought leader, Lisa is currently working with her clients from conducts master classes and workshops that emphasize on improving communications and work conditions of digital workers in bigger enterprises. Lisa’s continuous research centralizes defining and expending the ethical guardrails that are critical to a world that is globally influenced by its digital network. Lisa also continues to inspire global organizations and their digital teams by developing new strategies in serving better collaboration and control of their online presence.
