Zaha Hadid was born on October 31, 1950, in Baghdad, Iraq, and died March 31, 2016, in Miami, Florida, U.S. She is the daughter of Mohammed Hadid and the sister of Fulath and Haithem Hadid. Zaha studied at the American University of Beirut. After graduating in mathematics in Beirut in the 1970s, she studied architecture in London and, in 1980, opened her own firm in the British capital. She first gained international recognition in 1983 when she won the competition for The Peak Leisure Club in Hong Kong.
She is an architect who makes wonderful pieces of art and designs, for example, some of her prominent works are the Heyday Aliyev Centre, the London Aquatics Center, Beijing Galaxy Soho, Beijing Wangjing Soho, and the Dubai Opera House. She is also known as a landscape designer who has won many awards.
Academically, Zaha Hadid is known for her interdisciplinary creativity, as shown by using modern technology in her designs and a wide range of material choices(glass, plastic, titanium sheets and steel), which renders her a leading exponent of modern deconstructivism in the field of architecture.
With 40 years of activity and nearly one thousand projects worldwide, her architecture firm Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) sets the benchmark in contemporary architecture.
Zaha’s architectural design work is inspired by Frank Gehry who is a famous architect and Kazimir Malevich who is a Russian Suprematist painter. Kazimir Malevich’s abstract geometric paintings, the piece explores Hadid’s three-dimensional subject matter and demonstrating her interest in spatial relationships.
In 2004, Zaha won the Pritzker Architecture Prize. In 2010 and 2011, she won the Stirling Prize for her two buildings: the Evelyn Grace Academy and the MAXXI museum.
