Online Collaboration Pattern

Work Community to Teamwork

In the Work Community, Christopher Alexander mentions the different jobs can be placed in one workplace community. In teamwork, as the community is transferred from the physical environment, there are no boundaries for staff who play different roles and jobs. Engineers, project managers, and designers can work together.

Also, in Teamwork, the big ‘office’ is with all tasks within different progress. Under the platform, each member of the team has space to upload their works and communicate, but as Teamwork is a project management software, there’s no common area for fun except working.

Robust task management

[the flow through rooms]

When I go through the video app such as IQIYI, there is a huge common area where all popular resources are there. Then I choose to wether search for the video or continue to watch the video history. This process is like going from the common area to the small room with a fluency flow, feeling like I get into the movie threaten then go to the room to watch my movie.

[small meeting rooms]

I realize that when we meet on zoom, it seems I am looking at several project screens of people’s heads. I totally don’t feel that we are really meeting. Especially when I want to see someone, I should rather than see them easily, and I actually can’t see them for if I face toward the people, my face looks like I am looking at somewhere else. If I look at the camera, I can’t see the people. Isn’t that strange?

I just feel wired until I read this article. It’s so true that the small meeting is important to be displayed circularly.

  1. I liked how you used the flow through rooms and small meeting rooms, seems like two common pattern people use to compare their work to ours.
