How Oregon Trail Became a Favorite

Wow, this brings back some memories.  I remember playing this for the first time in elementary school as personal desktops made its way into classrooms and this is probably one of the reasons why it became popular; being able to play a video game at school, where we spend most of our day at as a kid.  Other reasons I believe that made this game attractive was the combination of being educational, fun, and taught kids about technology all at the same time; providing players to see what it was like when the Westward Movement/Expansion occurred during the 19th century in North America.  The fun factor comes into play as it catered towards a role-playing game; letting us create a story.  It was engaging and “allowed players to embody other and rise to the challenge of something they’d never attempt in real life…It was an interface for starting to understand machines and simulators that now govern nearly every aspect of life.”
