Comparing Patterns from a Pattern by Christopher Alexander and the Visible Body Works demo, I can see some similarities. For example, Alexander talks about the clusters of communities in the workspace. In the demo, the clusters are demonstrated in a virtual space as “nooks.”
Alexander also talks about rooms, within rooms, within rooms, that allow for more major or casual meetings with co-workers. Similarly, the demo demonstrated the ability to enter deeper and deeper into the data, which allows the user to see the overall overview but get access to more complex data as you dive in further.
From what I have seen in VR chat room gameplays on YouTube, such as in VRChat, people are able to enter rooms with different themes or topics. As you get closer the players you are able to hear each other better, such as in real life. This is called proximity chat. I still have yet to see typography displayed as complex as in the demo since it is a visual nightmare or the sci-fi ability to pinch and zoom the air to interact with data.
You use the VR chat room as an example, that’s really interesting for me. Thank you for your sharing!
