Space and information transmission

Muriel Cooper showed us part of the beginning of interaction design through Visible Language Workshop. It creates a virtual space, which provides for people to transmit and organize information. Christopher Alexander also uses the concept of space to optimize the living environment of human beings. I have to say that there are similarities between the two. Alexander stressed the necessity of public spaces and community. This is also reflected in the Visible Language Workshop. We can also see that there is something in common between information classification and spatial classification.
I can’t even believe it was developed in 1994. In this semester, we have a class named “Object and Space”. We use augmented reality technology to help people understand climate change more. In the meantime, we need to know the space and arrange the position of the space. Including various spatial variations, such as horizontal, floating, rotation, etc. I also saw similar moves in the Visible Language Workshop. No matter in 1994 or now, we have been designing with space to help people understand and transmit information. However, in 1994, before the technology developed, I experienced a clear sense of space and it. In the process from 2D to 3D, Visible Language Workshop played a big role.

  1. I like that you refer to our classes! It shows that you’re applying what you’ve learned across different courses.

  2. I totally agree with you that Visible Language Workshop plays an important role on modern technology.
