Since computers this product have walked into normal people’s life, any type of user interface that creates a better experience had been designed. And Xerox Star released in 1982 and Macintosh released in 1984 were the sign of the user interface of the first generation. Some designs are already been replace by today’s new design or feature, but some of them are still lasting till now.
A lot of features in Xero Star we can still find in today’s computer, like file drawer which become today’s folder, windows are still the main way those applications pop up on both Windows and Mac OS, and the design of the file windows with name and date.
However, the index had change because the explore of the internet world, and keyboard “open key” iOS not on computer device today. But the structure itself didn’t change a lot, the more is the change of design of icon and the transform animation between each action.
And for the Macintosh, we can see the top bar and the trashcan both are still on the home page. And the structure is also very similar to today’s macOS. Even the way the user view file is still the same can select view by icon, name, kind, and date. I think the feature is missing is the dock bar at the bottom of the screen.
