In ancient times, people used paper as a carrier for reading. In modern times, people use mobile phone screens, Kindle screens, computer screens, etc. as the carrier of browsing. Writing is a symbol of human civilization, the paper is the most effective carrier of writing, and printing reflects what efficiency is. So I think it’s important to have a basic background understanding of the importance of moveable type and the Renaissance as a time of invention. As an interaction designer, Now we design the page very simple to set the grid, drag the square, and type on the keyboard. In ancient times, they didn’t have a computer. They used wooden blocks, very physical objects for typesetting. And the carved characters are reversed. I have to admire the wisdom of ancient people. These histories are important to us, although they are in the past. We have to learn old knowledge to create new things. This reminds me of Da Vinci’s research on mathematics, geometry, music, research on dissection, do-it-yourself dissection of dozens of people, making statues, making weapons for the army, digging canals and designing bridges, making programming robots and designing flying machines, the emergence of such talented people It must be said that this is not only his personal miracle but also the miracle of the entire Renaissance movement. Because the Renaissance was the starting point of modern human science and art, all disciplines were in their infancy. This period is very important for mankind, we need to learn. As interaction designers, the reason why we study history is to find rules, judge risks, understand the truth, and speculate about the future. Let us design something better.

Thank you for sharing! I agree with your idea that as interaction designers, the reason why we study history is to find rules, judge risks, understand the truth, and speculate about the future. Let us design something better.
I am excited to see that you have different opinions on Renaissance and movable type printing. As a designer, we study history in order to discover the changes in human thinking as society progresses. And your blog makes me feel that as designers we really need to understand more cultural fields. This will definitely help our design work.
I really like what you said about history: ” the reason why we study history is to find rules, judge risks, understand the truth, and speculate about the future.” I believe history is a gift we get from the generation and good design comes from experiment.
Research for a better assistance is what I agree on with the attitude as an interaction designer. I also wonder what item can be a tool for human in the future.
