Reflection on the influence of movable type printing in the Renaissance and interactive design

As an interaction designer, what we have to do is to provide humans with more ways to communicate, including between people and between people with objects. And movable type printing is equivalent to the ancestor of interaction. The emergence of movable type printing provides the initial interaction method for human beings. China invented movable type printing, but due to the simple material and the cumbersome Chinese, China has not popularized and sustained development. The easy-to-type Latin invented metal movable type, so large-scale printing began. Printing permeates every area of public and private life. The culture based on listening, seeing and speaking gradually evolved into reading and writing. This is a major change in the way of interaction in human history. The result of this change is a revolution in knowledge and communication. That is the Renaissance. The cause of the Renaissance was that assets were dissatisfied with the spiritual control of the church over society. So they print a large number of books for people to read and generate personal thoughts. The great interaction is to enable more people to start communicating, and it is more convenient and simpler. This is our most important goal as an interaction designer.

  1. It inspires me to think our incentives and motives to interact with the other people. I agree with you that designers have to come up with more interesting interactive ways for communications.

  2. I agree that finding better ways of communication is always the goal for us as an interaction designer! And the history has proved that communications plays a big roll in our society.
