The Importance of Understanding Moveable Types and Renaissance as an Interaction Designer

As mentioned in the lecture video that the web consists a lot of types from the early days. There are a ton of new types created everyday for specific needs. Types serve as a medium for communication. It is like a mass production that is similar to the invention of the movable types. The information can now be shared easily across the web anywhere, anytime with just a click of button. The information can spread really quickly, which is similar to the result of the creation of movable types. The importance for the Interaction Designer in understanding movable types is a shift in your audience from small to a broad one. In addition to that, there are many devices and platforms that designer needs to take into account the legibility for the user. The fallback for universal fonts is always a good practice.

Renaissance is an important period in the human history, where there is a great shift in social change. Leonardo da Vinci was a great example, especially the intellectual aspects. First, Leonardo applied different disciplines from science to physics to his work. This illustrates the same concept that is happening now in the digital world. Tech companies have deployed different disciplines into their products like psychology in keeping users in using their products. Another great example is the translation from real world object to a flat screen. Renaissance artists had introduce grid system and linear perspective to transfer the scene to canvas. In the modern world, we try transfer real world object to a virtual world like virtual reality.
