As an interaction design student, we iterate and develop our design works over and over again in order to achieve higher usability, product quality, and more. Every detail of the work matters to us to present a high-quality design. For example, visual aesthetics, hierarchy, proximity, even the space between headlines and content.
The second way we can make our works better is to study what had been made and created in the past. Learning what had been invented in the Renaissance period and the creation of movable type would offer designers an additional resource to get inspired. For instance, designers might find a better solution to improve audiences’ reading performance by creating the harmony of the visual interaction, such as alignment, typeface design, and the size of letters. Not only the movable type but also all kinds of innovations from the past would possibly give designers more ideas to make such improvement.
Nicely said – kind of slim on why learning from the Renaissance is important but good thoughts about type and how IXD can benefit from understanding the past.
I agree with you, I think we all need to learn from the past and try to use on nowaday designs.
