Communication over invention
Designers are often passionate about creation, conception, and invention. But as an interaction designer, the more important skills are communication and understanding. Before developing a product, the first step is to find people’s needs. Only a full investigation with communication as the means and understanding as the purpose can ensure that the project is needed. We will not forget the original intention of human-centered design. At every stage, interaction designers always need to communicate with different groups. Users, engineers, and team partners, etc. People’s needs are the yardstick for improving our products. Communication between teams makes our products more stable and solid. More communication will give us more opportunities to improve product quality.
I agree with your statement on the importance of communication and understanding. The empathy and transparency between designers and the others mean quite a lot in the modern days.
I totally agree with considering understanding the problem and creating stable communication to be more important aspect in interaction design. But I believe “passionate, conception, and invention” will make the difference between a good design and a great design.
Finding the real problem and attempting to fix that is imperative to creating useful designs that will sell. I agree it’s important to consider your design through many different perspectives.
Hi Betty,
I completely agree that it is important to remember that we design for others and are often in communication with team members in the process! I think its often easy to assume we know best as the designer, when in fact, everyone knows something we don’t, and that in itself is inherently valuable.
