Since I decided to pursue design, I could grasp to live in different countries, the UK, the USA, and my home country, South Korea. While staying in the UK, I faced an utterly exotic system compared to Korea. The different language was an obvious obstacle. The education was different: having 13th grade and a 3-year-long university. Living in the States recognized how big the country is and the driver’s license requirement for a living. Being a foreigner in the UK and the USA provided me a perspective of comparing the differences between nations and search for the possible improvement in each system. I met new friends and mentors who have impacted my existence. My journey has been approximately 6-7 years: now, I have encountered an interaction design that may provide another experience that improves myself as a better designer and human, hoping for a better world.
0. A better world is where all people have equal rights, opportunities, and accessibili- ty to design and services, with appropriate respect and reward.
1. Every Designer must seek for a design suitable for people with different status.
The design should include people of different status who need assistance. This inclusive design is a default for every human being, having a personal objective. A world must allow allowing to spread their ability and potential.
2. Every Designer must seek a design that involves life.
The design should be implemented in people’s life. The design should feel natural and har- monized with humans. This pursuit of human friendliness may avoid manipulation over humans. Involving life means that designers should consider ethical aspects in the design process: from Ideation to Post-production.
3. Every Designer must seek for a joyful design.
Design is a medium for making humans a better life and is joyful. Enjoyment may affect the internal mind of individual selves. Joy may bring us into better mental health, which is an essential aspect for people and society.
Interesting points. It is true that design is a medium for making a better life. Creating a joyful environment is one of our goals.
I think the design world is really starting to embrace your first point, accessible design in their work and its yielding some interesting results that designers might not have thought of if they weren’t considering all possible groups of people they can.
Your attaching file looks just like the traditional manifesto paper. I strongly agree with the three points you made, especially the third one.
