I am a Taiwanese. I learn this since I was young, and this is how I see myself. When I was still in Taiwan, no one has judged me by saying “I am from Taiwan” or “I am Taiwanese.” However, last year, someone bullied me just because I said “I am Taiwanese.” I feel accurate after that because I didn’t do anything wrong, why can’t I show my self-understanding of identity. I don’t want my experience to happen to any other people, everyone has the right and freedom to shows their self-understanding of identity. And I believe a lot of artists or designers also done their work base on their self-understanding of identity, or love of their home country, so I think to make people understand and respect each other on this topic is important.
- No one should be judging or bully by other people because of their self-understanding of identity
- People can disagree with other people’s self-understanding of identity but they should respect it
- Never block people out just because of their self-understanding of identity
- Self-understanding of identity should not be the reason you stop being friends with a person
- Don’t try to change people’s mind when they have different thought of their identity with you, just respect
- the self-understanding of should not change how you understand the artwork
Very strong points – but how does this affect your work as an interaction designer? How will you take these ideas about identity and equality and apply them to your work and how you approach your work or even what you choose to work on?
In order to have a better world, we truly need to learn to be more tolerant of each other and work to celebrate diversity instead of fearing it. Identity is so important to how we view ourselves in the world and in our work and I definitely agree that the uncontrollable things about you shouldn’t undermine your character in the eyes of others.
As an international student, I share the same feelings about self-understanding identity. I like number6, art is so universal.
