What does IxD mean to me

Three years ago, I changed my major from fine arts to interaction design. The primary reasons could be described in three words – curiosity, technology, and people. The application of technology into the design field that could make the world a better place, as well as the potential technology that could be applied to arts appeal to me. Moreover, changing perspectives to increase understanding is a tenet to me. Thinking in different perspectives offers me to think further and feel more. With the attraction of technology and my empathetic mind, the curiosity of what I can bring to the world with interaction design strengthened my idea to explore the design field.

Currently, after three years of learning interaction design skillset and knowledge, what interaction design means to me is not merely finding a solution with the latest technology and empathy to help people, but also try as much as possible to bring people closer to what matters to them. Without a doubt, fulfilling users’ needs is a priority. However, knowing what people really want is not as simple as finding people’s needs. The process of achieving this is challenging but substantial. More stories of different lives offer me lots of different and interesting angles of viewing the world.

Using art to address the infinite possibilities of life and evoking people to think of the possibilities of infinity, and using designs to help to increase the possibilities of development of life and bring people closer to what really matters to them are my motivations to create things. As an interaction designer and artist, I believe that creating values to the world by making high-standard, aesthetic, and creative arts and designs are the ultimate goals of my life.
