In my opinion, the design is not art, design is a service industry related to art. Art is created by artists for themselves and does not need to meet anyone’s needs except the artist himself. Artists make art only for themselves.
However, the design is not like this. Designers through design to meet customer needs and help them to find and solve problems to make this world better. Therefore, I think that a good designer is someone to help customers find problems and solutions to the problems. So, in my opinion, good designers should not have their own style.
Every design should be made based on the situation to satisfied customers’ needs instead of making design with a stylized routine.

Definitely agree with your opinions about the differences between art and design. BUT how does this affect your work as an interaction designer? What are the principles by which you will work, choose work, approach your work. Your statements are very general and not written as a set of principles to design by or live by. These should be stated in a more personal way.
I deeply agree with you. I think design is for others but art is different.
I think the design itself can be defined as being made for someone, but the design itself is a work of art. Why not? We’re making something. It’s art! Art itself is one of the factors that makes it important to be seen by people as well as to express their thoughts, what is the difference? I think art is the closest place to us, not only in gallery or museum 🙂
Interesting take on design versus art. I’d like to think that anyone can “design” but a good designer can find a way to make something that’s both artful and what a client is asking for. We should shoot for the stars and say one day we will make a design so powerful it’s both an art form and what the client needs!
