Redesign the E-reader for disable people

Accessibility refers to whether a product or service can be used by everyone — no matter what they encounter. Accessibility regulations exist to help people with disabilities, but designers should try to accommodate all potential users in many situations of use. There are clear benefits to this, especially better design for everyone.

With the technology development, nowadays, more and more people begin and prefer to use the E-reader to read the books rather than using the print books. Compared with the traditional print books, E-reader has many advantages. It is easier to carry and people can just put it in their hands since the size of E-reader is small and not heavy. It is flexible for people and they can use it to read the book at anywhere anytime. The most important thing is that one E-reader can store plenty of books inside which means people can store all the books in one E-reader. Thus, it is quite convenient for people to read the books. However, there is a limitation that for some disable people, they may unable to it. For example, if a person is blind, he cannot use it since he can not see the screen. Thus, I plan to redesign the E-reader.

For the blind people, the main problem is that they can not see the screen. Thus, in order to solve this problem, it is essential to add a voice function in the E-reader just like the siri. When the blind people press the button, artificial assistant will wake up and ask the users what they want to do. User can tell the artificial assistant to download the books or read the books. With the help of the artificial assistant, the blind people can use the E-reader to download and read the books.

Using the improved E-reader, even the blind people can also use it to read the book.

  1. I think this might be helpful for people who are blind, is like a combination of Siri and amazon audible. And I think if you add something like “Hey Siri” or “Ok Google”. it might also work for users who are physically disabled.
