Voice Recognition with AI to Aid the Disabled

Visual impairment is a large probability of our current population. According to the World Health Organization, there are 39% of people who are blind. People over 50 years old are 82% blind. We often take for granted the ability to see. Even being able to see the people in front of you or the text on a dinner menu when going out is a challenge for the visually impaired.

I believe with the use of machine learning and AI, we could create a system to help people who are blind. Voice recognition which as gotten better and better over the years could help with that. Instead of relying on your sense of sight, you could use your voice and sense of hearing.

My example would be to have the user in question have a smartphone in front of them. Daily tasks like reading text off a newspaper or reading what something in front of you says could easily help out the user. Asking SIRI or Google Assistant to help you out with something you cant see could be possible with a smart enough AI. With the help of your front camera on your phone, you could be able to ask what scene is happening in front of your eyes.
