“Nosedive” versus Real-world

The “Nosedive” deals with an era in which social network scores determine everything in life. The only person who can decide who “I” is the SNS score given by the opponent. If they have caused trouble to others or done something wrong, anyone who has witnessed the sight can cut their reputation scores. I don’t think there is much difference in the definition of using SNS between the show of the Black Mirror “Nosedive” and the real world. These days, we can easily get other people’s information through cell phones via SNS is a big part of our daily lives.

Facebook and Instagram and people’s lives, share them with people through app, and even SNS has become important in the job market. For example, LinkedIn is a platform that focuses on job openings. Unlike other social networking sites that use personal information, LinkedIn focuses on ‘career’ such as academic background, credit, award performance, and technology. Job seekers can register with companies they want to receive news of employment and make friends with people they know or work in the same industry. It is also easy to find acquaintances working in the desired workplace. In short, it is an online edition of the job fair held offline. So we live in a huge IoT world and use and share a lot of data. Using all that data, we create a networked world and live in it. Fortunately, social networks do not mean our social reputation. Rather, many people are often criticized for making mistakes or misbehaving. However, it is not that there have been no cases of evaluating people on social networks like the Black Mirror Show.

The episode of the Black Mirror “Nosedive,” which is hard to believe in real life, is also a story of the future. Of course, people notice that the SNS is not always true. However, companies are increasingly evaluating people on social media, and Facebook stars that many followers are treated wherever they go. There was only a lack of technology for the world of “Nosedive”  to come. If technology develops faster, the world of evaluating and scoring people with eye implanted VR may not be too far away. As designers, we have to think carefully to see the advantages of technology and think about 2nd 3rd order effects that will cause problems.

  1. I AGREE. It is true that our daily life is filled with social medias. Sometimes, technologies and social medias cause problems even though it always be useful. As designers, I GUESS there will be a class in the future called” How human beings take control of technology?”
