The technological advancements present in media and sci-fi shows are extreme predictions that people speculate could happen in the future. The highly technological futures we see in shows like Black Mirror could potentially become a real life future. With technology slowly becoming more advanced, a future like the movies and media is not too far off from reality.
I would not want to live in a world where we must rely on solely technology. In the episode of Black Mirror “Nosedive,” people are rated a number based on how people perceive them. This system is extremely dangerous in my opinion. Having a number to solidify your status in life could affect one extremely badly. Insecurities and worry would become the only thing on peoples minds. Their goal everyday would be to get a higher score so they can succeed in life.
It is interesting to think about future innovations like highspeed transportation or new ways to interact with others, but there should be regulations set in place to make sure that we do not become accustomed to technology aiding us. I would love to see future innovation in technology with highspeed rail. Being able to go from San Francisco to LA in 1 hour would be amazing. However, there are many worries I have about future technology. When I hear about invasive methods to incorporate technology with us, I get worried. I would not want to have a chip inside me with code running through it. It would make me feel very cautious, the opposite effect it should have.
Personally I could see major strides in technology and medicine in the next decade or two. Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s most recent presentation for his company Neuralink has caused worry among many people. The technology displayed is a brain chip that one would have implanted inside them. This chip would be able to cure headaches, diseases, and sickness. Hopefully the future we can look forward to is filled with ethical methods and hopefully amazing technology.
Agree with your thought. I think technology can be dangerous if people rely on it too much. If people need to communicate and interact with others through technology, they might not have a chance to lose the opportunity to discover other’s strengths.
Agreed! I think the designers of technology have the responsibility to think through all possible effects of their product, and if/how it will truly serve society in a positive way.
I also don’t want to have to rely on technology. I do love tech from a hobby standpoint. I like learning about them, and thinking about how it could integrate with my life.
For me a perfect landscape would be living in a huge forest that is also a big city with skyscrapers. More integration with nature would feel really good and maybe even enable us to take better care of it in the first place!
Funny thing about the chip in the brain is that we already kinda have this technology and it’s used for people with certain medical conditions. To me, people thinking it’s unsafe or dangerous is kinda sad because if we can adopt this tech and make it “consumable” i’d hope it would positvely affect the medical market and make it a cheaper more obtainable piece of equipment.
Nice observations and I totally agree with you about not relying solely on technology.
