Richard Saul Wurman used five words to explain the tools for information architecture in the video “The Five Types of Organizing Information” which are Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, and Hierarchy. These five words he mentioned in the short video are really easy for me to understand.
Information architecture focused on solving the basic problems of accessing and using, the vast amounts of information available today. The focus of information architecture is to make complex things clear through organizing Information just like what Wurman said in his video. I feel that IA is really helpful for the Interaction design. At the beginning part of the design process, Information Architecture can organize the infrastructure of all of the content. Based on this reliable structure, interaction designers can start to create a better user experience. I feel that just like Wurman said, information architecture makes the words become the dictionary. Interaction designers can design for a dictionary but can’t design for millions of words.
Overall, As an interaction designer Information Architecture is an important skill to obtain. It points a clear direction for us during the design process and helps us to create a more enjoyable and comfortable experience for the users.
I like you idea that as an interaction designer Information Architecture is an important skill to obtain. It points a clear direction for us during the design process and helps us to create a more enjoyable and comfortable experience for the users.
i like your point: Interaction designers can design for a dictionary but can’t design for millions of words. But i also feel that sometimes interaction can be the creators of “words” too
I totally agree that IA is a great skill to inform our design process!
