Organize information into Information architecture

A tidy and orderly room will make us feel that everything is under control; a room filled with things randomly will make us feel that the room is out of control, which will cause people to feel irritability. For an App, if the main page is filled with various content, users will usually feel irritable. Because users can’t get what they want immediately, it’s full of too much information, they can’t find that sense of control. Information architecture is the structural design of shared information environments; the art and science of organizing and labeling websites, intranets, online communities, and software to support usability and findability; and an emerging community of practice focused on bringing principles of design, architecture, and information science to the digital landscape. IA is one of the user experience elements. It studies the process of how people perceive information. For products, IA focuses on whether the information presented to users is reasonable and meaningful. IA can help people better understand their surroundings and find what they want. The main job of IA is to organize the classification and navigation structure so that users can browse the content of the website more efficiently and effectively. Before doing information architecture work, designers need to have a clear understanding of product positioning and goals. And in order to understand users, it’s necessary to refer to the results of previous research and understand how to classify various content in user perception. Designers can use wireframes to think about the structure of information, express the connections between different interfaces, and determine the actual operation logic of the products. We can draw sketches of key pages early on to demonstrate how users interact with information. IA is used for early-stage, classification to provide a basis for later interactions in order to achieve a good user experience.

  1. I agree with idea that IA is used for early-stage, classification to provide a basis for later interactions in order to achieve a good user experience. Nice job!

  2. I feel like my own personal IA could be classified as disorderly organization. I really am all over the place but for me seeing everything laid out in front of me is how I like to see things. and then the act of organizing or grouping into whatever way I come up with at the time may not make sense to someone else but is perfect for me.. maybe im in the wrong field… hahaha

    1. I feel so, for example, my room is messy, but I feel orderly, and I can find what I want. If one day is very tidy, I will feel comfortable but I can’t find anything. Because i’m not used to?

  3. Great thoughts! I had the same ideas thinking of IA as a useful tool early in the design process to organize the interactions to be included in the final product.
