AR Tech in Glasses or Contacts is the Future

When we walk outside, we can see that our world is surrounded in technology. When we walk into a cafe, you see people left to right on their laptops and phones. Well what if we could interact with our surroundings to complete tasks and daily routines?

AR technology could have a major spark in the future. We have already seen the possibilities of AR tech in popular apps like Snapchat and Pokémon GO. Snapchat uses face recognition AR technology to change up the way we look and add additional features to ourselves like hats and glasses. However, Pokémon GO uses a different approach to AR compared to Snapchat. Pokémon GO focuses more on the experience of living out life with yourself surrounded by AR Pokémon. No matter where you are, you could take your neighborhood and city into the app and interact with the game.

I believe that AR tech could easily branch out of its current use. A pair of AR glasses or contacts to make the time of day display in the corner of your peripheral vision could be a cool idea. Even seeing notifications pop up like new mail or new messages could make the action of glancing at your phone obsolete.

Having notifications pop up on your smart glasses or contacts isn’t even the end of the potential AR has for the future. AR could easily make games more interactive and force you to use your body in real time too. What if we could engage with our outside world and fight enemies that are created in AR? The idea of using your body for games isn’t a bad concept either. Many people have shown they are open to the idea as we see in games like the Wii Fit.

Things I would love to see in the future is AR technology incorporated with navigation apps. A problem I have when driving is making wrong lane changes on the freeway. If AR tech was used for this purpose, a driver could display the directions and mark the road with navigation one could in real time. This would also cause less traffic accidents too because of the tech being updated if every driver used it. The app would be able to notify you if you would ever get into a potentially dangerous incident based on the data collected from all users.

I one day hope to see a future where we can once again look at our surroundings and appreciate it without having to be stuck to our phones. Too many people are glued to their phones and never even notice the outside world changing and evolving around them. Having screens and interfaces integrated with ocular tools could be game changing. You could easily utilize the tech to make life easier like the smartphone does currently.

  1. This would be such a great idea. Especially for navigating around the city in places where you don’t feel comfortable taking out your phone.

  2. The landscape you draw for future AR feature is cool and might be useful for people’s daily life. Hope we can see that release soon in our future. And I think for the navigation app, maybe they can try to include AR future on to windshield first. ???
