In the past few years, information visualization has become a critical modern communication medium and research technology. According to studies I learned in Cognitive Science, humans’ cognitive speed and acceptance of images are much stronger than text. Designers visualize information and make the complicated, obscure, and most difficult data easy to understand. Information visualization is a shortcut in my opinion. This shortcut improves the efficiency of people’s understanding of the real world, allowing people to find and understand more of the information they need in less time. I believe that the future of information visualization is responsible for reducing the side effects of the information explosion. It will be everywhere in the future in various forms different from the present.
With the development of science and technology, people inevitably face more and more data to be processed. Modern communication and dissemination technology has improved the speed and breadth of information dissemination. Technical means such as radio, television, satellite communications, and electronic computer communications have further united the world by overcoming traditional time and space barriers. On the other hand, they are also leading us to a side effect. If people want to find and obtain the information they need from the vast ocean of information, they will have to filter relevant information from more media. It will become more difficult to quickly and accurately obtain the information you need most. This difficulty will become one of the core problems in the future. We will rely on the development of artificial intelligence to filter information for humans. Therefore, information processing AI has the potential to become a highly active technology field in the future.
The recent emphasis on visualization started in 1987 with the special issue of Computer Graphics on Visualization in Scientific Computing. At the current stage, our information visualization is mainly using computer graphics and image processing technology to convert data into graphics or images on the screen Display on the top, and then interact and process. Present interactions are inseparable from screens as the intermediate medium.
In the Object & Space I took this semester, I learned about the application of augmented reality technology in modern society. Modern augmented reality technology is closely related to human vision. In fact, augmented reality technology does not have to be limited to vision, but also includes smell, hearing and touch. AR superimposes virtual layers and reality, so that users can get a combined enhanced experience. If AR technology can be used for future information visualization, the so-called “visualization” can even be accompanied by more immersive experiences. By mobilizing more senses to participate in brain information processing, people can further and quickly query the information they need.
