Surgeries have been a staple in the field of medicine which date back as early as 3000 BC where a procedure known as trephining (cutting small holes in the skull) were evident. Fast forward to the 18th century, we can see historical evidence of surgical procedures conducted from tooth extractions to treating battlefield wounds. Now as more advanced technology becomes readily available, we are starting to see the use of robotics, virtual reality and augmented reality being implemented into this field. Currently, VR is used by doctors for educational purposes as well as mapping out a patient’s body to show them where exactly a tumor is located. This gives surgeons a “practice round” using 3D printed models of a person’s head and perform a tumor extraction. Using VR technology can also reassure patients on how their doctors will go about with the surgical procedure.
I believe the medical field will embrace these advanced technology and continue to use them as a way to better educate doctors (including patients) by providing 3D maps of a persons anatomical body and finding ways to make surgical procedures more efficient.
These advanced technologies definitely will help so much in the medical field
