Today, the way most of us interact with devices through screens. Like our cellphone, tablet, laptop, computer, and TV. They all work through the screen. So I think the question and the problem for future interaction designers are how to design out of the screen?
Today, there are a lot of interactive devices that came out that are not interact with people through the screen. For example, HomePod mini from Apple, Nest Audio from Google, and Echo dot from Amazon. They all don’t have screens, But they can interact with people through sound. HomePod has Siri, Nest Audio has Google Assistant, and Echo dot has Alexa, The only things user need to do is say maybe “Ok Google” then start asking the question they wanna ask or ask it to do something like a countdown, set alarm, turn the light, and many other things, This is the interaction without screen that we can see today.
I think this type of virtual assistant will not replace the screen, I think the screen will transfer to products make my transparent glass (glasses, mirror, windows) with projection or AR feature include. But I think this type of virtual assistant will become an easier way for users to quickly interact with the device. And I think this might be some part of Future interaction Design.
