A Better Designer…

One of the reasons for the difficulty to pin down these Mid-Century into one discipline is because they were not constrained in just one aspect or area of the design. Instead, they were considering how to finesse the human experience all around.

One thing that inspired me in Charles and Ray Eames’ creative process is that they play as they go further – from building their own house (and everything in and around their house) to animation films, there is nothing they had not experimented with. The essence of their creative process was to have fun and to experiment without hesitation. As two architects, it is the willingness to build new things that led them into the other fields that they were not even supposed to be in. Regardless of their boldness, they were always expanding the idea of how to apply their design to everyday life more ergonomically and efficiently. Today, despite the freedom we have to unleash our creative power, as an interaction designer, it is our responsibility to be vigilant at the same time – we have to consider accessibility and sustainability. Only by practicing mindfulness and willingness to take risks, we can get one step closer to be a better designer.
