The Eames Creative Process inspires me. They keep testing, then draw the ideas in their minds through sketches, change the materials, adjust the size, shape, and test again. This design method continues to any design field today.
At the end of the video, said to go outside and create something. It means that we have to have a broad vision in order to design better things. It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books. Also, learn to think while traveling.
This reminds me of city planners. I think they have a lot to consider. The height limit of the city, for example, the city needs to retain a certain line of sight corridor, so some areas need to artificially determine a relatively low building height limit. Consider the style of the city, feng shui, transportation, government policies, funding, weather, and various principles of urban planning, such as arranging the industrial zone in the downwind direction. My uncle never studied architecture, but he used to be an urban planner. I think it’s funny, can he? He said that he has experienced too much, studying, observing, and communicating with others on business trips. He said that when a person has a wide range of knowledge, he becomes very creative. Think about any small things in our life.
If I were a sociologist, I would pay attention to the proportion of men and women on this street; If I were a painter, I would pay attention to the light and shadow, color and proportion of this street; If I were a pedestrian, I would pay attention to where the road would be better without water. If I were an architect! My focus is on architecture-scale, size, material, color matching… When we subconsciously sum up these architectural elements effortlessly, we have preliminary thinking of architects!
In short, what I mean is that no matter what designer we are, we are constantly observing the world in our lives, when we walk and when we travel. From all aspects, never stop thinking.
I agree with your point that no matter what designer we are, we are constantly observing the world in our lives.
Yes, that’s right! It is not only interesting to learn more about the world that we don’t know, but it can also bring us a broad range of knowledge. Why not do this?
I agree with your point on the broad vision and the importance of paying attention to things that happened in our surroundings.
I agree with there is always opportunities for better design by observing the world around us.
the continuous thinking and observing are definitely important factors to interaction designers.
