I think any design is designed for humans. When people think of products, we always ask whether they are easy to use or not. The word easy is a subjective human feeling, I think it depends on ergonomics. The design should consider the comfort and limitations of the human body. Henry Dreyfuss considered a lot of how to make products better communicate with humans and provide better services when designing. It’s like designing clothes. First of all, it must be suitable, considering that comfort is always greater than its appearance. In terms of interaction design, comfort, convenience, and efficiency must also be considered, to provide better services. Interaction design considers the relationship and behavior of people, environment, and equipment, and is the node the user passes through when using a device. Designed for this behavior of “talking” with the device. In layman’s terms, it is to let users know how to use and use it smoothly. Our interaction design is to make the product easier to use and efficient so that users feel comfortable when using the product. At the same time, it needs to understand users and their expectations, their behaviors when interacting with the product, and the psychology and behavior of users themselves. In actual work, the upstream of the interaction design connects with the product manager, sorts out the production process clearly, and finally presents it on the interactive prototype, and delivers it to the downstream visual UI designer.
Designers in the mid-century are engaged in furniture design, graphic design, product design, architectural design and so on. These designs must consider cognitive psychology in the research stage.
I like this quotes
I like how you mentioned the quote. Also, very detailed historical background research!
Your discussion is very thought-provoking. And thank you for your great quote! I agree with your idea about the importance of the relationship between the human behavior and interaction design.
This is a hardcore theory!
Excellent statement on Interaction Design. I agree with your understanding of the relationship between the importance of human behavior and interaction. Interaction Design is a discipline that involves multiple areas include human behavior and psychology. Considering users’ expectations and making products more comfortable and better to use is our interaction designer’s job.
It’s kinda really nice to think that our main job is to think about people. It’s like the greatest excuse we can use for our designs if some big company is like, “I don’t know about that” you can say, “this is what the people want and they are the ones paying us!” I almost went into sociology because I liked the idea of learning more about people. I feel like IXD was a good “compromise” for me.
Great quote and philosophy about how we should start design for people first.
I think design for human depends on how easy to understand its uses and the fluidity of the users’ adaptation to the designed product. And yeah the understanding of human and their behaviour is essential to the designer to make product benefit people.
