The mid-century designers

Ray Eames was an artist, designer, and filmmaker who had great contributions to the design field. She and her husband, Charles, together working on furniture design, graphic design, architectural design, textile design, and filmmaking that tried to express the idea of playful design.

Karl Gerstner was a Swiss designer, typographer, author, and artist. His design principle was that design should be able to work anywhere and in all kinds of devices.

Ladislav Sutnar was a graphic designer from Plzeň, who was a pioneer of information design and information architecture. His design principle includes: understanding different people’s perspective, improving people’s efficiency and usability by descriptive iconography.

Henry Dreyfuss was an industrial design pioneer. What he thought in the past is now the first priority when we are doing product design – to learn about the users. Dreyfuss’s principle had affected how designers do research to develop the product. The primary goal of doing design research in modern days is to understand people – learning about their demand, behavior, and goals.

  1. I think you should add pictures of the designers work so we can see a differentiation between their fields of work.

  2. Although you put out some good points about these designers, it would be nice to see some of their work a long with your blog to get a better perspective of their influences.

  3. Your post summarized their personal career but it would be nice if you can compare them together.
