When Doug Englebart and the Stanford team were demoing, Doug demonstrated many examples of navigating throughout the system. One prototype that stood out to me the most was the errands map, where he had a prototype of a “map,” he would click on a location and a list of errands would appear, he could click and drag items in different orders, navigation across the system, clicking on links—all still very prominent in today’s computer interaction. Practices that are discontinued or at least not used a lot are the use of hidden links since it would be really confusing for users to navigate around if they had not known before, little no no use of hierarchy, and almost solely navigating through the system using addresses.
