The importance of the “Man-Computer Symbiosis”

Under the impetus bring by the pioneers such as JCR Licklider, Doug Engelbart, Vannevar Bush computers changed from no user interface to has the graphic user interface.

J. C. R. Licklider expressed his idea about the relationship between the human and computer and foreshadowed interactive computing in the “Man-Computer Symbiosis”. He realized that computers will become a new medium of expression, inspiration for creativity, and a gateway to a vast online information world, not just a tool for calculating numbers, in 1960.

In my opinion, I think J. C. R. Licklider’s “Man-Computer Symbiosis” is very important to us, it helps to point out the direction for the relationship between the human and the computer in the future, which is just like the Blastophaga and the fig tree. “living together in intimate association, or even close union, of two dissimilar organisms”. I guess in the future, human-computer symbiosis is a good way for humans to use AI in the future. Humans and machines have their own strengths which can create complement each other. Most of the repetitive tasks can be handed over to robots, and humans only need to complete more valuable tasks.

  1. I agree with your idea! It’s good to know that J. C. R. Licklider’s “Man-Computer Symbiosis” is very important to us, it helps to point out the direction for the relationship between the human and the computer in the future, which is just like the Blastophaga and the fig tree. “living together in intimate association, or even close union, of two dissimilar organisms”.
