Creativity Within Design Systems / Interaction Patterns

After reading through the Common Ground article by Jenifer Tidwell, I feel that creativity is still achievable through the design systems and interaction design patterns. I see creativity flowing depending on what and how the user utilizes their work in. While there may be limitations with the software and simply depending on other people’s systems or patterns, it is about taking it a step further and thinking of more innovative uses to utilize the design.

I feel that the author is trying to display how this limitation is not necessarily a negative thing, especially for more new and inexperienced users trying to learn about these ideas. However to enhance your creativity, experience and your way of thinking will go a long way into creating more productive and inventive intentions to your design. The author talks about the differences of thinking when they say, “[Experienced users] don’t clumsily or timidly copy a technique, afraid they’ll somehow ruin it by changing it; rather, they understand the design principles and process enough to confidently adapt a good idea to a new use in a new context.” (Tidwell 4). With this, I believe that creativity is still active within design systems and interaction design patterns.
