I believe design systems and interaction design patterns do not stifle creativity in interaction design. The rise of interactive technologies led to many responsive versions of different technologies. For example, if we make a website. We must consider a phone, iPad, laptop, and desktop version. If the website design doesn’t have a design system, the cognitive workload for users when they jump from one mode to another. Keeping the design systems across platforms would also provide a more comprehensive understanding for users.
Transitioning from web design to User Experience Design is also a business need. Companies recognize that providing better user experiences is a business strategy that provides competitiveness among competitive markets, maintains earlier customers, and attracts earlier customers. UX design combines business objectives and users’ needs so the products and services are user-friendly and business-successful.
Also, a design system is a tendency in the user experience design process because it offers reuse elements and prior solutions, especially for large companies like Google and Apple. They would have multiple teams that work cross-functionally; it is nearly impossible for everyone to talk to anybody who has worked on a particular product or project. So, a design system speaks without a speaker aside to discuss all the details, like specific icon changes, and why it is designed that way.
