I think design is involved from time to time. It has become more sophisticated since the early days of the Macintosh/Windows. When they first launched, the design was more graphics, a flat design. As time went by, the design became more and more dimensional, with different animations to emphasize some key features. Some companies also embrace more 3D design to stand out from the crowd.
In addition, the principle of accessibility could be improved from the beginning. At the beginning of the design, everything was black and white. Designers and engineers didn’t consider accessibility for everyone much. As the design developed, people realized they couldn’t include everyone but needed to include everyone as much as they could.
However, the design principle mainly stayed the same because the key insights for design are usable for the user. The ultimate goal of design is to make the target users ‘ journey convincing enough to use. For example, there are two features that large audiences have already adapted, so there is little necessity to change the established pattern. Window-based multitasking is when the user can run multiple Windows situations simultaneously. The other one is file management, the trash bin on our desktop for permanently deleting files. The metaphor of the trash bin is sufficient for cognitive understanding.
