The Mother of All Demos: Engelbart’s Visionary Leap

In 1968, Douglas Engelbart and his team at SRI revolutionized computing with “The Mother of All Demos”, showcasing innovations like the computer mouse, graphical user interfaces, hypertext, real-time editing, video conferencing, and networked collaboration.

At a time when computers were used mainly for calculations, Engelbart envisioned them as tools for enhancing human intellect and collaboration. His demo introduced concepts that later shaped personal computing, the internet, and modern digital workflows.

Though underappreciated at the time, Engelbart’s ideas influenced Xerox PARC, Apple, and Microsoft, making his 1968 demonstration one of the most important milestones in technology history.
